Recognizable by its flat, paddle-shaped pads, prickly pear cactus is everywhere in the Sonoran Desert. During certain times of the year, it produces colorful fruit (often used in drinks and candies).

It’s one of the most versatile and widespread desert plants you’ll see on the trail.

Brittlebush

Brittlebush adds bright yellow color to the desert, especially in the spring. These flowering shrubs thrive in the harsh desert environment and help create those “wow” moments when the landscape suddenly feels alive.
